Norristown Officials Debut New Firetruck through Capital Improvement Plan

NORRISTOWN, PA – Norristown Officials announced today the debut of a new dual purpose engine and ladder that went into service on December 31, 2018.  The new 2018 Emergency One 78 foot Quint was purchased for approximately $837k through the Municipality’s first Capital Improvement Plan (CIP).  The 10 Million dollar plan kicked off in 2017, focused on fleet acquisition, facility renovations and economic development.

The new truck, built at the Emergency One plant in Ocala, Florida, was specifically designed to navigate Norristown’s tight and narrow streets. It replaced the ailing 2001 75 foot American LaFrance Quint that had over 90,000 miles on it. The fully loaded truck has an assortment of ground ladders, a 500 gallon water tank, 78 foot aerial ladder, it also carries a variety of saws, and other rescue equipment ready to serve the community.

“The Norristown community is deserving of quality and reliable vehicles and equipment.” said Council President Sonya Sanders, “the firetruck purchase confirms Council’s commitment to put the safety and the needs of our residents at the forefront.”

The state-of-the-art engine is 11.3" tall, 37 feet long, a 220 inch wheel base, and has a life expectancy of fifteen years.  Other highlights include the ability to be operated on an 8% grade, pumps 1,500 gallons per minute (GPM), 1,450 feet of attack fire hose, 900 feet of 4 inch supply fire hose ready to combat any fire incident.  A showcase is the works with a date to be announced in the New Year.
