The Municipality of Norristown's Department of Planning and Economic Development is seeking interns to assist with community deveopment activities and associated administrative duties. Examples of work carried out by the Planning Department include economic development, historic preservation, infrastructure restoration, zoning, subdivision and land development.
Skills to assist with a wide variety of community development projects, including but not limited to the ability to write effectively, multi-task and work independently. Applicant must also have proficiency for organization, record keeping and word processing (i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point etc.). The applicant will also be expected to assist in clerical duties such as answering phones, photocopying, filing and the ability to lift or carry up to 20 pounds.
Applicant must be able to work not less than sixteen (16) hours per work week.
$12.00 per hour

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA OR GED; VALID PA DL PREFERRED, CURRENT PA CHILD ABUSE HISTORY CLEARANCE, PA STATE POLICE CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECK CLEARANCE & FBI CLEARANCE. Must have the ability to interact with children, motorist and other members of the public, pleasantly and effectively. Ability to adjust to changing work hours; ability to walk; stand continuously; work in adverse weather conditions; the ability to be assertive and control any given situation; the ability to work without direct supervision and to make quick decisions based on accurate assessment of a situation, using knowledge and common sense.
Working home telephone is required.
GENERAL DEFINITION: This is entry-level work involving assisting school children to cross intersections. Assignments are limited in nature and are carried out to detailed instructions. Incumbent responsibilities include maintaining traffic control; ensuring the safety of children going to and from school. After training, work is performed under the supervision of a Supervisor, Police Lieutenant or Chief of Police.
