NORRISTOWN, PA – The Norristown Fire Department announced today that Fire units were dispatched to Curren Terrace Apartments, located at 1101 New Hope Street, Building 8, at     3:39 a.m. on Saturday, April 21, 2018, with assistance from the Norristown Police Department, Plymouth Ambulance, Plymouth and East Norriton Fire Companies.

Upon arrival firefighters found fire in a ground floor apartment; smoke detectors did activate, alerting occupants.  Surrounding apartments were evacuated.  The fire was placed under control at 4:06 a.m., with minor smoke damage to adjoining apartments.

Once inside, crews found a sixty-one year old female, who they removed from the building and placed in the care of Plymouth Ambulance for treatment.  The woman later died at the hospital.  This is the first fatality of 2018. There were no further injuries reported.

The fire is still under investigation by members of the Norristown Fire Department Fire Marshal’s Office and the Pennsylvania State Police.
