Norristown wins ICMA’s Strategic Leadership and Governance Award

NORRISTOWN, PA – Today, the Municipality of Norristown announced that it will be honored by The International City/County Management Association (ICMA) with a Strategic Leadership and Governance Award at their 104th Annual Conference in Baltimore, MD in September.

The award, initiated in 2006, serves to honor and acknowledge achievements in government management by recognizing innovative programs that have significantly impacted the local government’s strategic direction.  ICMA received over 150 nominations in five professional and five program excellence awards categories.

“Receiving recognition from the world’s most prestigious professional local government management association is another indication that Norristown’s political and administrative leadership are strategically working together to move the city in the right direction,” said Council President Sonya Sanders.  “Council will continue to pursue smart economic growth for our town and we are proud that our Municipal Administrator is a Credentialed ICMA manager.”

Norristown will receive the award in the 10,000 – 49,999 population category for the economic impact of it’s effective implementation and the Local Economic Revitalization Tax Assistance (LERTA) program.  LERTA is a creative way to encourage owner-driven revitalization and new construction in the Municipality's Redevelopment Area.  The Luxor Lifestyle complex, a $27 million development on Luxor Lane, took part in the LERTA program to bring 157 luxury lifestyle apartments to the Municipality in 2017.  The success of that project led to the development of a 38-unit phase two projects the same year.
