Statement from Police Chief

Official Statement from Norristown Police Chief Mark Talbot regarding police related video

Many of you have seen a recent video that shows two Norristown Police Officers attempting to break up a fight. I’ve spoken to several community members personally and I’ve read your social media posts as well. I understand the concerns that have been expressed. Frankly, I have concerns as well.

We are conducting a full and complete investigation. In the interest of transparency, I am also requesting that an outside agency review the video and the surrounding facts. Taking this step will help to ensure that we don’t appear to be giving ourselves a passing grade on a test that we created. The municipal administrator, Crandall Jones, is engaged with what’s happening. Mr. Jones has been fully informed of what has occurred and our investigation.

During the course of my nearly five years as police chief, the Norristown Police Department has developed a tremendous reputation for serving our community. We’ve built this reputation through thousands of acts of kindness and compassion. We do not take lightly the trust and confidence that we have been granted by the public.

Most importantly, I know that everyone expects that I will do what’s right and that is exactly what I will do.
