Welcome to Norristown Fire Department
The mission of the Norristown Fire Department is to save lives and protect property through prevention, preparedness, education and response. We are a combination fire department consisting of 55 Pennsylvania State Certified Firefighters. These include the 9 Chief Officers, the Fire Marshal, 15 career firefighters adn 30 volunteer firefighters.
In addition to firefighting, the department provides Heavy Rescue Unit & water rescue unit, Decontamination unit, and Fire Police services. The Fire Department responds to over 1,200 calls for service each year. The department's members spend countless hours responding to these calls for service, along with many hours of training each year. The department is made up of four fire companies: the Norristown Hose Company, Montgomery Hose Fire Company, Hancock Fire Company, Fairmount Engine Company No. 2.
The Norristown Fire Department participates in the Pennsylvania Fire Service Certification Program and the Voluntary Rescue Service Recognition Program. The purpose of these Certification Programs is to identify and recognize emergency service personnel whose accomplishments in training and education meets or exceeds NFPA standards for the Fire Service. Professional Qualifications identify the minimum requirements for a person at a particular level of progression. A person certified to one of the Fire Service Professional levels will have demonstrated competency in the knowledge and skills required to perform at a particular level. The service that is offered to the citizens of Norristown and surrounding communities will be enhanced by the professional competency attained through this certification process.
The department also has a Junior Firefighter Program. The program allows young men and women to become firefighters at the age of 16. The department welcomes those of all ages that are interested in becoming a volunteer firefighter or who are willing to assist with administrative duties.*
