The Art of Frank Batson
FEBRUARY 21, 2017, - APRIL 29, 2017
Norristown native Frank Batson’s paintings are inspired by his memories of Norristown and the surrounding area from the 1940’s, ‘50’s, and ‘60’s. Many of the buildings and places are long gone, but through his art, they are brought back to life. Batson paints from both photographs and personal memory.

Free and open to the public.

Hours:
Monday & Thursday 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
Tuesday & Wednesday – 1:00 p.m.-7:30 p.m.

Town Hall - 3rd District

Councilwoman Val Cooper will be holding a Town Hall meeting on Thursday, April 20th at the Norristown Public Library from 6-7:30 pm. Sarah Peck and Francis Vargas have both confirmed their attendance. Topics of discussion will include the 1529 Dekalb St property and the Montgomery property on Powell St.

Residents of Norristown Borough that present valid photo I.D. may enter the zoo free of charge after 2 PM.

Reading Your House; Researching Your Home

READING YOUR HOUSE, April 18, 2017, 6:00 to 8:00 pm, will introduce attendees to the fundamental tools needed to start seeing your house in a new light. Workshop covers introductory topics on historic architecture including: formal and vernacular architecture, regional differences in house types (pre-1850), basic styles and construction techniques from 1700 to 1920, how to measure and draw a house, and how to look around at the landscape of houses in Montgomery County.

RESEARCHING YOUR HOME, April 25, 2017, 6:00 to 8:00 pm, will look at documents related to house construction, occupancy deeds, probate records, mechanics’ liens, maps, census and tax records, and other sources of documentary evidence related to houses. Part of this session looks at local and regional resources relating to the restoration and preservation of historic architecture. Mary Lou McFarland, Senior Preservation Specialist of the Heritage Conservancy, will discuss the role the Conservancy plays in the preservation and protection of significant open spaces, natural resources, and the historic heritage of Bucks and Montgomery Counties.

Norristown Running Club Weekly Group Run

The Norristown Running Club (NRC) is for residents of Norristown and the surrounding communities. We share training ideas and accomplishments. Our aim is to support, motivate, encourage and educate one another through our common passion of running. Runners of all levels and abilities are welcome. Walkers are also welcome. This group is free to join. We will meet every Wednesday @ 6:30pm at either the Norristown Farm park or Betzwood Park from now until Sept 27. Additional group run details are listed on our website. Come out and run with us!

Free and open to the public. Profits from the sale of vendor spaces benefit the Norristown Preservation Society and the restoration of Selma Mansion.
