Norristown Fire Department’s 3rd Annual Martin Luther King Jr.
Day of Service Smoke Detector Blitz rescheduled to March 23rd
NORRISTOWN, PA –The Norristown Fire Department will honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by serving the community of Norristown on Saturday, March 23, 2019, a rescheduled event due to postponing in January due to weather conditions.
In partnership with the American Red Cross starting at 9:30 A.M., all on duty fire department staff will conduct a neighborhood Smoke Detector Blitz on the 1400, 1500, and 1600 blocks of Juniper and Pine Streets including associated side streets. Approximately one hundred twenty-five homes will be given the chance to have a firefighter install a smoke detector on each level and a smoke and carbon detector on their bottom floor.
“Today we answer Dr. King’s call to service by stepping up to participate in this year’s Day of Service” said Fire Chief Tom O’Donnell “It is a terrific way to honor the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.”
The Norristown Fire Department will host target additional blitz events at the end of April and May in conjunction with the Norristown Area School District.
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (January 15, 1929 – April 4, 1968) was an American Baptist minister and activist who was a leader in the Civil Rights Movement. He is best known for his role in the advancement of civil rights using nonviolence.
