Norristown Municipal Council President Issues Statement Regarding the May 11, 2019 Events at the Saint Francis of Assisi Carnival

NORRISTOWN, PA – Norristown Municipal Council President Sonya Sanders has released an official statement on behalf of council.

Peace and comfort to you all.

The events that occurred on Saturday, May 11, 2019, at the Saint Francis of Assisi Carnival for what was supposed to be a night of family fun, were upsetting and disturbing.

The investigation is currently ongoing. Interviews are being conducted, videos are being reviewed, and we are following up on information received from various sources. Police Chief Mark Talbot will continue to provide us with frequent updates as well as immediately inform us about any other significant developments.

Only until the investigation has concluded, will the voice of Council have the opportunity to speak on this matter.

In the interim, please enable unity in the community, assist families in need, and stand strong together in word and in prayer. Let us not be divided, partake in racial tensions, and eliminate all prejudices. Allow the beauty of unity to continue to thrive in the midst of adversity in the community of Norristown.

All media inquiries should be directed to Police Chief Mark Talbot, for the Municipality of Norristown, at 610-270-0977.
