Norristown Now Accepting Applications for the Seventh Citizens’ Leadership Academy
NORRISTOWN, PA – The Municipality of Norristown is pleased to offer the seventh Citizens’ Leadership Academy (CLA) this fall. The free eight-week program is a series of sessions offered to Norristown residents or Norristown business owners to help develop skills as a community leader and gain understanding of how municipal government operates.
“Since its inception in 2014, the CLA has proven to be a successful approach to funnel an informed pool of residents into volunteer or leadership roles”. Said Municipal Council President Sonya Sanders., “Graduates have gone into roles on several municipal boards and commissions, two graduates have become Council members.”
The fall 2019 session will be held 6:00pm to 7:30pm on Thursdays, starting September 26th through November 21st, at the Municipal Building. Municipal Council, Municipal Department Heads and Montgomery County officials conduct the sessions with focus on three major themes: Educating the participants, developing leadership skills, and improving engagement through open lines of Communication.
Participants must complete a minimum of six of the eight classes to receive the Citizens’ Leadership Academy certificate. The certificate will be handed out at the December 3rd council meeting. Interested participants should submit an application to the Municipality by September 20th. Applications are available online at norristown.org or at Municipal Hall. Class size is limited to twenty spaces and will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Participants must be Eighteen years of age or older and reside in or have a business in Norristown.
