Pennsylvania American Water to Begin $5.75 Million Water Line Upgrades in Norristown

NORRISTOWN, Pa. (August 19, 2019) – Pennsylvania American Water today announced the start of two major construction projects to replace sections of water main, as well as utility-owned service lines and fire hydrants, in Norristown to improve water service reliability and fire protection for area residents and businesses. The cost of the projects is approximately $5,750,000 and will upgrade aging pipe dating back to the early 1900s.

Beginning the week of August 19, crews will begin to install nearly 5,000 feet of new ductile iron water main on E. Main St. between Arch St. and Ross St. along with 175 new customer service lines and fixtures. Construction is scheduled for completion in December 2019 with final paving restoration occurring in spring 2020, weather permitting.

Work will also begin next week in west Norristown. 4,600 feet of new pipe will be installed and 175 customer lines and fixtures will be replaced on W. Washington St. between Noble and Stanbridge Sts., W. Lafayette St. between Noble St. and Haws Ave., Noble St. between W. Washington and W. Main St., W. Main St. between Stanbridge St. and Haws Ave., and Haws Ave. between W. Lafayette St. and W. Main St. Construction is scheduled for completion at the end of December 2019 with final paving restoration occurring in spring 2020, weather permitting.

“As the Norristown area grows, it is critical that our water infrastructure keep up with demand. These projects will help us provide the excellent service and fresh, clean water that our customers have come to expect from Pennsylvania American Water,” said Pennsylvania American Water Senior Manager of Operations Jim Gable.

Crews will work weekdays from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the east side project and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the west side project. Traffic restrictions will be in place during construction, and motorists are urged to give themselves extra time and exercise caution when traveling through the work zone. During construction, customers might experience temporary water service interruptions, discolored water and/or lower than normal water pressure.
