[ARCHIVED] Press Release: New non-emergency phone number activated for Norristown Fire Dept

NORRISTOWN, PA – A countywide initiative by Verizon to update phone cables will soon deactivate the non-emergency phone number for Norristown Fire Department, but a new number has already been created for the department.

Norristown Fire Chief Tom O’Donnell is reminding residents that they are being directed to dial 610-635-4455 for non-emergency fire calls. The line will be answered at the county’s regional dispatch center to field general information requests about the department.

Chief O’Donnell said if anyone is need of any emergency police, fire or medical care services in Norristown to immediately call 911.

Anyone who calls the soon-to-be old number, 610-275-0300, will hear a message that will include the new phone number for residents to call

Verizon last month started the transition to phase out the former number, and a list of other numbers for emergency departments in Montgomery County, as they switch from copper telephone lines to fiber optic. No other emergency services providers in Norristown will be changing their phone numbers.
