NORRISTOWN- After three-and-a-half months of being closed to the public, Norristown Municipal Hall, municipal parks, and other municipal facilities will reopen on July 1.
The municipality’s list of operations during the green phase of the state’s COVID mitigation plan were announced Wednesday that includes details regarding the use of municipal parks and visiting municipal hall. In regard to public spaces, social distancing will be required and masks must be worn. The state has capped gatherings at 250 people which must be adhered to when using municipal facilities. All municipal facilities are opened to the public with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommended policies and procedures in place to limit contact and exposure.
“At this point Norristown remains number one in reported cases of Covid-19 in Montgomery County and fifth in the Commonwealth,” stated Municipal Administrator Crandall Jones. “The Municipal Council takes this very seriously; so, while we do want to provide more access to services for our residents, Council rightfully insists that it be accomplished in a responsible and safe manner for residents and staff.”
The following is a list of operations that will go into effect on July 1:
Municipal Hall/Council
Employees of, and visitors to, Municipal Hall will have their temperatures checked upon entry. Anyone with a temperature of 100.4 degrees will not be admitted into the building. A mask must be worn and a six-foot distance kept between persons.
Municipal Council and Advisory Board meetings are to be held in-person or virtually at the discretion of the council, and in adherence to social distancing and CDC guidelines, including masks.
Norristown Recreation Center/Municipal Parks
The Recreation Center is reopen at 50% capacity.
Masks and social distancing required until further notice.
Summer camp will open according to CDC and Commonwealth guidelines.
Visitors/campers will be required to submit to temperature checks and those who register a temperature of 100.4⁰ F or higher will be asked to leave and register themselves for COVID-19 testing.
Parks, playgrounds, public restrooms, boat launches, fishing piers, and all sport fields will reopen to the public with physical distancing restrictions in place, including masks.
Special Events, indoor facility rentals, and sport field permitting will resume, but restricted to a maximum of 250 people/participants/spectators and in adherence to social distancing and CDC guidelines, including masks.
In-person recreation programming will resume, but with restrictions on the number of participants.
Other operations
Street sweeping will resume its regular schedule on July 1. Tickets will be issued for street sweeping violations.
Municipal departmental ticketing/fine protocols will resume.
Municipal facilities will undergo monthly sanitizing of surfaces.
