(March 22 update- No more applications will be accepted. The class is full.)
Municipal residents will get a look at the functions of their local government with the return of the Citizens' Leadership Academy this spring.
The latest cohort of the CLA will convene for a seven-week course starting April 7 at 6 p.m. The class continues every Thursday from April 15 to May 20 with a course completion certificate awarded to each participant who attends at least five of the seven classes. Each week will focus on a different area of municipal government, from finance to public works, emergency services to zoning.
With the Municipal Hall renovations underway, a meeting location will soon be determined.
The CLA is a free program limited to 16 participants. Applications for the CLA will be accepted on the municipal website and in person at Municipal Hall on a first come, first serve basis through March 26.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic the course was canceled for 2020. With social distancing regulations still in place because of the pandemic mask-wearing will be required for each 90-minute weekly class. This will not be conducted virtually.
Public Information Officer Kevin Tustin will be leading the Citizens’ Leadership Academy.
Since its inception in 2014, over 100 people have completed the Norristown CLA. This program is focused on residents who want to develop skills as a community leader with an understanding of how municipal government operates. Those who complete the class can bring their leadership skills by serving as members of our boards, commissions or municipal council.
