Juneteenth is a municipal holiday in Norristown that celebrates the undisputed first day of freedom for all people who were enslaved in America. To commemorate the day, we are partnering with a number of community agencies including the Great Norristown NAACP and the Norristown Chamber of Commerce.
Celebrated annually on June 19, the holiday memorializes the emancipation of the enslaved Black Americans with joyful celebration. Juneteenth Jubilee Street Festival in Norristown will kick off at Dekalb and Lafayette streets with living history by Millicent Sparks as Harriet Tubman, followed by a drum procession for the reading of the General’s Order and Council’s ribbon cutting.
The festival will include a mix of vendors selling food, jewelry, art, crafts, and services; the Willow School Kids’ Zone with Moon bounce, face painting, zoo animals, balloons; mainstage featuring live local entertainment; free admission to the Centre Theater Charles Blockson exhibit and so much more!
The Street Festival will take place on Dekalb Street between Lafayette and Penn streets, and on Main Street from Dekalb to Green Street. 10 x 10 vendor tents will line the streets; the historic Centre Theater located on Dekalb will open its premier Charles Blockson exhibit; mainstage with live entertainment will be on Main Street near Five Saints Distillery; and the Willow School Kid’s Zone will be located on Dekalb Street between Main and Penn streets.
